iTunes and Vista

February 2, 2007

I feel compelled to write about this, only if because I get visitors arriving here after searching for iTunes/iPod troubleshooting tips.

There are reports that using the latest version of iTunes (7.0.2) with Microsoft Vista will cause issues. “Among these problems is an inability to play music or video purchased from the iTunes Store, problems synchronizing address book contact and calendar functions, and slowed runtime. Additionally, there is a chance that plugging an iPod into a computer running Vista may corrupt the device”, per this News.com article.

Apple published a support article regarding this issue, and it suggests that users do not upgrade to Vista until the next release of iTunes, which is designed primarily to address the Vista compatibility issues. The article also contains guidelines on how to “improve” your experience with iTunes and Vista if you cannot wait a few weeks for the new version.
