Size Does Matter

Everybody is  jealous of our television. It’s not flat [it's a rear projection set]. It’s not even “true” HD (it doesn’t support 1080 dpi).  It’s just a massive 60 inches.

People talk about our TV. I have a co-worker who is friends with my brother-in-law. My co-worker comes up to me one day and says, “Will told me about your TV. When are you going to invite me over?”

We bought the set when we moved into the house three years ago. Emily only agreed to the purchase because the model was deeply discounted [it was being phased out for a newer model]. I think Emily and I both take the television set for granted. It is a nice set, but it no longer impresses us. In fact, I keep pondering when we should replace it with a television that supports “true” HD. Those newfangled Blu-Ray discs won’t play on this one …

From Melancholia

[Digital Boy]‘s  got one 60 inches big. Jealous? Yes. Thou shalt not covet your neighbor’s…oh, but I want it. If his TV were a woman, it would have double D’s with tight denim shorts and the overwhelming desire to invite me up for coffee. I weep each time I walk into his house. Yeah, yeah. He’s got the great wife, the beautiful kid, a nice home. But I could care less about that. It’s that f*cking TV that I long for.

He lies about not being jealous of Emily. He only wishes he could find a woman half as wonderful. In fact, I’m sure Melancholia is envious of my life in general. Compared to my life, his is sad and pathetic.

I don’t take our TV for granted. I know that it’s an awesome TV and I always enjoy sitting in front of it.
